The 2008 Unit Leader Climbing Awareness Course
Introduction
to rock climbing:
A guide for unit leaders and merit badge councilors to gain the
knowledge and resources needed to take their unit or crew rock climbing and
rappelling in a outdoor setting
The CIEC Unit Leader Climbing
Awareness Course is designed to train unit leaders in BSA guidelines to ensure
safe unit climbing outings for their troop or crew. Emphasis is placed on BSA safety standards
outlined in Climb On Safely. Topics cover how to book an outing and
where to get climbing instructors. While learning BSA guidelines leaders participate in
basic climbing skills such as belaying, rock climbing and rappelling to
experience the thrill and excitement they can provide scouts on a climbing
outing. This course is held in
April or May so unit leaders can immediately call for reservations in
Joshua Tree, one of the most popular rock climbing locations in the world.

If you want to earn your HAT segments for Rock Climbing and Rappelling. . .
